Then I planted two blueberry bushes, rhubarb, and asparagus. The latter two I planted last year, but they didn't take. So I'm trying again, in a new location. I thought I was in pretty good shape with all the running and weights I do, until I had to dig that stupid trench to plant the asparagus.
And finally, I picked up beets, garden beans, sweet corn, peas, summer squash, and zucchini. I'll plant the peas once Paul tills the garden once more. The others I'll plant in late March, directly in the garden. This will be our first year trying to grow corn. I've heard a lot of horror stories about it, but my boys just adore corn. So we're going to give it a shot.

Isn't this such a wonderful time of the year. Busy as well! Seeds are starting to grow, soil warming up. So much to do and so little time. Have a blessed week and enjoy your time in the garden!
When your dad was a teenager, he borrowed a big field from a neighbor, planted corn and then sold his crop. He knows some tricks. I remember he said when the silks came out on the ears, he put one drop of mineral oil at the head of each ear and they didn't find a single ear of corn with a worm on it.
i've got to get some planting done. the ffa sells a lot of plants this time of year and i always buy some tomato plants and basil. i was just thinking that i should be seeing that order form soon!

We have plans to plant the cooler weather stuff in the garden this weekend. Hooray for fresh!!
Corn is easy peasy! Don't listen to all the expert advice out there. We don't and always have a bumper crop. We always grow Silver Queen. The only special thing we do is till in some fertilizer before we plant. We always seed closer than recommended and never thin:)

Our rule of thumb in Nebraska (well, my rule of thumb,) is wait until Mother's Day to plant the garden.

I wanted to plant a garden last year. It was so cold, damp and dreary all the way into June and I lost my motivation.
I want to try container gardening. I also saw pallet gardening on Pinterest. I need to look at that one again.
Wow, that is a LOT!!! But then again, it is a farm. It makes me tired just reading this. Good luck with the corn, we have lots and lots of corn fields around here.
I love spring planting time! I have to wait a bit longer here, but I know it won't be long. I planted 3 rhubarbs several years ago hoping that with three the odds would be better for one to survive. All three did, and the plants have gotten huge! I'm glad that so many of my friends and family love the stuff because there is plenty to share.

I'm certainly looking forward to getting outside and working in the garden. It's going to be hard not to plant too soon with the unseasonably warm weather we're having.
we dug up some of my gramma's asparagus last year and planted it in our yard. her plant must be at least 50 years old. can't wait to see what we get!
This will be my first year planting- upon the request of my 4 yr old daughter! I hope our results are good! Will keep you posted!
This time of year is so exciting! I love growing corn but once the birds start to get in it, we cut it all down and get what we can because they tear it up quickly!

My yard has tons of fruit trees. I often trade fruit for home grown veggies and even fresh cut flowers. I can't plant anything as my dog chews it all up.

I just bought a lot of seeds today to start planting.
I TRY to wait until Mother's Day to plant the beans, squash and melons but usually can't get past the first of May! It sounds like you guys will have a wonderful garden this year! I'm looking forward to watching it grow!
