This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Spartan Race for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I've been running consistently now for over 9 years. It has become such a delightful and integral part of my life and personality. I've run through grief, anger, happiness, and despair. And as I've entered into workouts with such emotion, running has welcomed me with open arms. It doesn't turn away, not sure how to handle things. Nope, it encourages me to push harder, to run it off, to strive for new limits.
Once, I had a goal of running the New York City marathon. It took me 4 years to get into the race and actually run it, once I started dreaming. Now, I haven't had a particular race I'm looking towards for a while. But sometimes I have these crazy dreams at night while I sleep. Dreams where I'm running adventure races. Where I'm jumping off cliffs and crawling through mud and swimming through caves. Strange huh? True story, though, I have these dreams, and when I wake up in the morning, I'm kind of pumped up over them. I want them to be real - to be able to push myself to those exotic racing extremes.
Recently I found out about this chain of running events called the Spartan Race which is located all across the US. The closest to me is in North Carolina in October - a 10-12 mile race over obstacles, including lots of trails and climbing, and nicknamed The Beast. They even have a kids' event that Pierce could enter. They also have smaller events in other locations that are more beginner friendly - 5Ks and such. If you've never raced before, it seems like a fun and challenging way to jump into running with a bang. Spartan Race will even provide you with a daily workout to get from the couch to the finish line in 45 days. Pretty sure your friends would be impressed if you did one of these races. I know I would be (not to mention a little jealous).
Go read about them out and see if there is a race near you. And if you sign up, I want to hear all about it! For frequently asked questions and answers, check out http://www.spartanrace.com//spartan-race-obstacle-course-faq.html

I have no doubt you could do this and do it well!
The closest one to me would be Palmerton, Pa. Not sure where that is but it is 231 miles from Pittsburgh and I live about 1 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh.
A friend of mine just ran the last one they had in NC a couple of weeks ago. She LOVED it!
I hope you get to run it one day, I think you'd enjoy it too!
I wish I could... I blew out my right knee at 40 and it has never been the same... sigh. You go girl, run for me too!
Well now that would be quite the goal! I say go for it!
This sounds like quite a race!
That would be some race to do!
Races like that are so much fun. There is a local Crazy 5K that a group of us did last year.
I can't run right now, and it is driving me crazy, but I know I'll be healed up eventually and well enough to run that marathon.
I love their logo and motto! It does sound like a great race!
Are you going to enter??? I guess it might be quite a drive.....I think you must be a born runner, with these dreams!
Do you have to wear the helmet? Lol.
Rooting for you here Lisa. Take the challenge you dream of : ) Does Pierce like running too?
Hi Lisa, I am so proud of you for continuing your running routine ---even after having 3 kids!!!!! Exercise is so important --and I never did enough of it all through the years...
We are doing some good hiking now --and I love it (and need it).. This week we took a 4.5 mile hike ... About killed me... ha ha
Good Luck.
Happy Easter.
Hugs,
Betsy
We think you are so amazing to do all this running!!

YOU CAN DO IT- I have no doubt!
I'm inspired and impressed by your can-do spirit and your dreams! It's quite a worthy goal to pursue.
Me? I need to get used to just running again before I can imagine getting through mud, fire, etc. :-)
