Remember the other day when I blogged about the world's largest wolf spider just outside my front door? Well, I started noticing that his intricate web system was looking a little frayed recently.
I no longer saw his big black butt hanging out of the hole of his web. And the threaded highways he'd built that took over the remnants of my lilies was starting to fall down. I didn't give it much thought.
Until I picked up a mum from Lowe's when I went to buy sand to preserve my beets for the winter. I was digging a nice hole to plant my mum, right by the spider's bush, where I'd previously planted lavender that I somehow managed to kill. And about 3 inches down in the dirt? AAACKK! It was the wolf spider! I guess he thought he'd hibernate for the winter. Well, I was already armed with a spade and I have to say...this is one wolf spider I won't be seeing again.
No worries, though, my door still has a huge wolf spider on it. Only this one doesn't bother me quite so much!

Did you know spiders don't like peppermint? Plant some or mix the essential oil with some water in a spray bottle. =)
We have a ton of spiders making their home around our front door. No matter how many I kill, they always come back. I think it is because of our motion light on the porch - which is supposed to scare away the raccoons so they stop getting into our garbage :-) I could do with a few less spiders though...
EW!!! I dislike spiders. Really. In the summer months, every morning there is one that builds a web across the doorway at our porch. I knock it down because they are huge! Did I mention I don't like spiders?
Oh I never seen a wolf spider but I am sure it is big and not nearly as cute as the one on your door:) B
I did not know they burrowed into the ground and hibernated but it makes sense!

ACCKKKK! I can't stand those big spiders. I just "removed" two yesterday- one on the front porch and one on the back.

Wolf spiders are not welcome here for sure. I have a crane fly hanging by a thread outside my window right above my table which keeps me entertained.

My husband does NOT like spiders. So when we have a spider, I have to be the man of the house and get it for him. LOL!

I have these big black spiders that love to hang right on my basement steps. Creeps me out.
We get wolf spiders here in Nebraska. We even started getting brown recluse ones. YIKES! Spiders don't scare me, but their poison does.
Isaak used to have bad dreams that he was stuck in a web. Your house might scare him. HA HA
*shivers* Spiders really creep me out! I hate to kill living things, but sometimes you just have to for sanity and safety!

I just do not like spiders. as long as they stay out side I let them be. Once they invade my home my son usually scoops them up and takes them out.

That is so interesting about the wolf spiders hibernating. I don't kill spiders unless they are in the house or they are poisonous, because they kill bad bugs. Inside the house is another matter. I love your door...ready for Halloween.
