A couple of weeks ago I was having new front tires put on my car (sigh) and the boys and I walked over to the mall to kill some time. We walked through AC Moore, which is a craft store, and I let each of the boys pick out a $1 wooden craft to paint.
These boys....they just love to do a craft project. They had the most marvelous time painting their wooden boxes (Pierce chose a truck).
Now Cort and Reid have a place to put their treasures (like rocks and sticks and flowers) and Pierce has a truck to drive around the house.
Readers, when is the last time you found something really great for $1?

Oh I always loved those wooden pieces that make for lots of fun and creativity. They did great jobs. B
If you find some smooth rocks the boys can paint them like bugs, kind of a beetle looking thing is the result. We did that in school one time only I brought a square rock for some reason. It was a square rock in a round rock world.
Very cool ! My 5 year old loves those crafts !
Lisa, you always find fun things for the boys to do. Good job, little guys. :)
It looks like a wonderful time painting was had by all.
It's been a while, and even then, I bet what I found wasnt as much fun as what the boys found.
that is SO cool! i love to see your boys concentrating on creating something!
I pick up $1 crafts for my kids all the time. Ax loves anything hands on so he enjoys craft time :)
I would love to find something for $1. Guess I need to look harder.
My son loves these kinds of crafts too. We picked up a sailboat not long ago for $5. Been a long time since we found something for $1.
The bins at Target sometimes have fun little things!
How fun and creative for them!
It's been far too long since ivfound something like that. Maybe today i'll go on the hunt!
What a great project!
Kids and crafts ... my fav when I was was little was that colorful clay that came in chunks.
Hahaha.... can't buy much for $1 today, but I did find a chalk figure at a yard sale for $1 and sold it for $50. Pretty cool! Looks like the boys are enjoying their paint crafts.
Hard to find so much fun that cheap
A Dollar Tree opened in our town several years ago. It was a big treat to give Amy a dollar and let her pick something out. She usually went for some type of craft item. We don't go there for toys any more, but it's still great to get dollar gift bags and stuff like that.
And nice work, boys!! :)
You find the neatest things for your sons... It's so neat to see kids being creative.
Hugs,
Betsy
:) its god to keep the boys busy. :)
You have the best mom ideas! I don't think I have EVER found a god thing for a dollar! At least in the last forty years! NO, WAIT! The Target Dollar aisles, I love them and will bu stuff there, really good things too. Mostly not for me, but for the girls.
Crafting is so much fun and can keep them busy for awhile!
It's so fun to see photos of your boys concentrating mightily on what they're doing. That's wonderful that they like crafts and being creative. They will take those traits with them and never be bored!
that is such a great summer project for your boys. I love painting with my grandchildren.
Such fabulous fun for a buck!
Your boys are very creative. Looks like a lot of fun!
My daughter is 12 and loves to paint the little, wooden birdhouses.
Lisa the simplest things turn into the forever memories.
In May I found Wooly Willies - that old school guys face that you can move the magnet flakes on him to give him a beard, or mustache. I gave them away as party favors.
Those wooden crafts look like fun!
Oh, this brings back memories! Cheap but so much fun! I actually have an old Carrom gameboard from the 1900s that I bought for a dollar at a garage sale!
i like getting those and the ceramic ornaments at christmas for the kids to paint :)
I remember as a kid painting ceramics. Boy, we loved that! I can't remember anything I bought for a $1 lately.
What a great activity!
$1.00? Can't beat that.
