Recently I discovered one on the corner of Elm Avenue in Southeast, just before you head into downtown. I confess that my children thought I was very strange indeed, when I pulled over the car to take a picture of the trash can for my readers.
In addition to having solar compactors in them, these trash cans will send an email to waste management when they are full. But I love them most for the historic pictures of Roanoke on their sides. This one depicts the Norfolk Southern railroad crew. On the backside (which I couldn't photograph, since I didn't want to stand in the middle of 5:00 traffic) it tells you a couple of nearby attractions that are in walking distance, and how long it will take to get there.
Readers, have you pulled off the road to take any pictures lately?
Yet another reason I love living in the City of Roanoke.
ReplyDeleteA unique trash can. I like the oldish picture on it. So interesting
ReplyDeleteI always find the most amazing things to photograph when we're on motorway, like factories on the side, ice blocks on the rocks at winter.. unfortunately most of the times we can't stop, maybe if there's shoulder lanes and traffic not crazy.
ReplyDeleteI see Minneapolis has some work to do. With artful trash bins. We are way behind.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Never saw such a high tech garbage can before. I have to wonder how much they cost and weather they provide a cost savings for only being emptied when full ... ;)
ReplyDeleteThose ARE cool enough to swing over and get pictures of...I'd have done the same. :)
ReplyDeleteneat cans, for sure! i admit to stopping on the road for pics, then having to pull off quickly to let others pass when they came up on me. :)
ReplyDeleteI love those high tech trash cans. I wish they would get some around here.
ReplyDeleteimagine a high tech emailing trash can!! It is also beautiful and glad you didn't risk 5 pm traffic ;-).
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool trash can! And yes! Just day before yesterday, i pulled over to take a photo of a billboard. Not fond of those usually, but this one is for the Oregon Humane Society and their 'End Petlessness' adoption goal. :)
ReplyDeleteYes indeed...for eagles!!!!....:)JP
ReplyDeleteA solar powered trashcan that sends an email when it's full? That's AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing these more in random towns and cities and love them! This one's a beaut:)
ReplyDeleteWell, how nifty! I doubt I will ever see anything like that here in rural Arkansas, but I think it is a fabulous idea.
ReplyDeleteYep, I pull off the road quite frequently- but only when there is absolutely no traffic.
Phil is astounded. and I am glad you explained how they work, unbelievable!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are cool! I don't think Lynchburg has any. I know Altavista doesn't. Roanoke is such a neat city.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are probably getting used to their mom taking photos of seemingly strange things. :-) Larry has gotten used to me whipping out my phone to get a picture of the ordinary and the odd.
What a pretty can! I love that is sends an e-mail when it is full!
ReplyDeletehi lisa, neat hi-tech trash cans for sure! so cool!
ReplyDeletewishing you and yours a very happy thanksgiving!
That is cool! I like the idea of making a trash can look well, not trashy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Lisa.
ReplyDeleteWoah! I've never heard of this before. So cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest trash can ever!

Well capture of the trash cans! its a great idea to manage the trash..
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool trash can deserves fans pulling over to photograph it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I pull off the road to take photos fairly often. It helps to live in the country where there's not a lot of traffic.
ReplyDeleteI haven't pulled off the road for pictures since by friend and I used to go garage sailing and every now and then we'd find a trash pick! So I'm thinking those trash bins might make trash picking a bit difficult but I sure do like them better than the gray ones we have. Cindy Bee
