RIP Apple Tree

I've blogged before about how much we loved the apple tree that resided in our front yard for so many years.  It provided us with many an apple pie; with apple butter and apple jellies.  The boys would grab apples as they walked by, to eat as a snack.  The deer sheltered under the branches, munching the apples when they fell to the ground.

It was a sad, sad day when a windstorm blew the apple tree down recently.  We truly will miss it next fall.  RIP apple tree.

  1. Oh that's too bad. Is it too late to stake it up? I had several trees flat to the ground after hurricane Hugo many moons ago. I staked them up and was surprised they made it and are now huge trees.

  2. It was a bad wind that could do that to an apple tree. I don't have any here other than a wild one of some kind. If I had money, I would have a bunch planted on the hill. You will have to go out to Peter's orchard, he tries to go light on pesticides and he also has peaches. She sells baked goods at the farmer's market.

  3. Aw, perhaps the boys can plant a new one next year !
The old one sounds like it will be missed. We have a very old apple tree (just one) on our farm too.

  8. Oh, how sad.
Will you be able to make something out of the wood as a memory? Even cutting a branch into disks for coasters or something would be cool...

  18. Oh, I'm sorry about your apple tree. It's hard to lose a tree. They are such a part of our landscape and habitat for the animals. Maybe y'all can plant another one in the spring.

  19. I'm guessing it was probably sick---that's why it fell. We had that happen to our apple tree and half of the roots were dead. :( Maybe you can plant a new one in the spring?!

    I hope so.
