What to Do if You Receive Gift Cards You Can't Use

Disclaimer:  I received a gift card for review purposes.  The opinions below are my own.

I generally love receiving gift cards as presents.  We have such a tight budget that it's fun to get a gift card and go splurge on something I really want.  I haven't ever received a gift card I didn't want, however, there have been a few occasions where Paul and I have received gift cards for stores or restaurants that we don't have locally.  Sadly, these gift cards went unused (it was before the laws where gift cards couldn't be docked after a year).

Now, there is a great resource if you receive a gift card you just can't use (or don't want to).  GiftCardRescue.com is an easy way to find discounted gift cards (save 4% - 35%) or sell gift cards you don't want (for up to 90% cash back).  The website guarantees all transactions and is backed by solid customer service.

You can also find GiftCardRescue on Facebook and Twitter.  As for me, next time I get a gift card for a store that isn't online and isn't local, I'm swapping it out for a Starbucks gift card - my favorite!

Readers, where would you most like a gift card from this year?

That's a really good idea! My mother in law usually gets me a Target gift card each year and I always look forward to doing a little fun shopping :)

Good information!

Actually, I bought a gift card for someone this year, and then found something I thought would be more personal. Now, I get to use it myself! :)

This is great to know about! Thank you. Although I've never received a gift card I didn't like or couldn't use. Sometimes if I don't particularly like the store, I give it to someone else who might find it useful.

This is totally cool! So far, I have not gotten a card we cannot use, but now I will keep this in mind!

Thanks for the tip! I love Barnes & Noble gift cards. I use them to buy books for my Nook. Amazon cards are good, too.

If I get a gift card, I send it to my kids in Cincinnati. My mom sends them to me, but I don't tell her I send them on. She sends me cards she gets in Sacramento for stores that don't exist in Georgia.

Thank you for sharing that, I had no idea!

When that happens around here, they are usually re-gifted :)

We go online and order customized Visa gift cards. You can even have their name put on it, a short greeting AND, you can upload any photo you want on the Visa card.

This service to rescue a gift card is a fabulous idea though and I'll bet a lot of people will use it too!

Nice. I also love getting gift cards. I usually do not get them though but it is nice to know that if there is one that I cannot use, at least it is not waisted. Thank you for the idea.

This is great! I just won one, and thought I could use it online. NOPE! I'll have to look to see about this.

Amazon or Outback!
One year we got a gift card for an online store that wouldn't let us finish checking out. It was so frustrating! (Maybe the folks that designed it went on to work on the healthcare site, LOL!)
