A Day of Reading

After the holidays, I felt so worn out.  I needed some relaxation.  So the Friday after New Years, I set out to get all my chores and errands and running done for the next day.  What I was doing was emptying out my Saturday, so I wouldn't have a bunch of pressing things I needed to do.  The house was cleaned, the groceries were stocked, the laundry and dishes were done, and I finished my running mileage for the week.

Saturday was a cold day.  I snuggled up on the couch with a book.  I read.  Sometimes a cat or a kid joined me for a bit.  Sometimes I did get up to make lunch or dinner, or brew some tea.  Then I read some more.  I went out for a bit, to work with Francie.  Then back under the blankets with my book.

It was pretty much the perfect day.  I needed that.

Readers, what do you do when you need relaxation?

  1. To relax I nap. I light a candle and my room and curl up with my nice warm bed...and no dogs, phones, etc..

    Heaven.

  3. Reading and writing, those are my two outlets. I definitely have needed more of them recently too. My kids have been under the weather, so we have been spending a lot of time sitting and reading, and while it isn't always a book I would choose for myself, it still helps!

  4. I love to read.. but for some reason I find it hard to do so during the day, unless the weather is absolutely miserable.

I'm curious to know your impression of that book when you're done.

    Update on Francie soon?

  5. I used to read a lot but just can't seem to do it these days. I have a bunch of books ready to read, maybe some day. It is a wonderful day when you can manage to get it to happen.
No snow here that I saw but of course I wasn't looking for it.

  7. Hi Lisa, Sounds like a delightful day. I just googled the book you read and it certainly sounds captivating. Glad you had a day to mostly do what you wanted.

I love to get all my cleaning/laundry done and watch home and garden tv while browsing thru favorite blogs.

  16. I really wanted to buy The Goldfinch, but it's such a long read. Also, some of the negative reviews scared me off, saying the story really went nowhere and was depressing. Thoughts?

For relaxation I grab my camera and head to the trees. :)

  21. ...sounds like a day around here, only sub dogs for kids. :) I have become addicted to reading in front of the wood stove lately -- perhaps a way to get away from the reality of cold weather~
