1. On the left is uncle Tom again, a ladies' man, according to my grandmother. Look at all that finery and slicked back hair! I like this picture because of the intriguing house in the background. I wish I could see the whole thing - it looks Victorian to me.
2. Happy Valentines Day! I hope all of you are well-treated today.
3. Pierce's New Year's Resolution this year is to build a life-sized Wall E. He is still talking about it. Six weeks later. He told me he was going to make his dad pinky swear to build one with him. Pinky swearing is serious business, folks. I'm not sure how we're going to get out of this one. He's quite obsessed with robots right now.
4. I miss corn on the cob, hot off the grill, with the husk all steaming.
5. Recently I made a peach cobbler as a winter treat, using peaches I froze last summer. It was divine.
Readers, what are you missing from summer?
Linked with Nancy from A Rural Journal.
Uncle Tom really is a handsome fella! Pinky swears? Oh dear, you're in for it.
ReplyDeleteI miss....... fresh tomatoes and basil. Oh how I miss them. Happy Valentine's!
i miss those days - pinky swear. when life was totally serious when you said that. perfect times. too cute!! i hope he gets his wish. a time for Dad & son to work together. through kids eyes, the world is totally different. i think i have a bit of that. or at least i try to hold on it. ( :
ReplyDeleteOh Uncle Tom is very handsome:)
ReplyDeletePinky swear is always a big deal I still think.
I miss peaches now:) Happy Valentines Day. Hug B
Love the old photo!
ReplyDeleteI miss being able to open the windows!!
The sun. That's to answer your question.
ReplyDeleteI'm not kidding either, we got a peak of it the other day and I almost forgot how much I loved it until it made an appearance again. Not enough to melt the ice...but enough to remind us Spring's really coming.
Good luck w/the Wall-E. hahahahahaha Imagine how happy he'll be if you guys really do it. :)
Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family.
I wonder where the photo was taken? Doesn't look like Roanoke.
ReplyDeleteI miss the summer grass and not having to feed hay.
I guess you will have to let Pierce build the thing.
What am I missing from summer? Daylight for riding, for one. I cannot say I truly miss the warmth, since summers are so bloody hot here! I guess the time when evening shadows lengthen and the temps begin to moderate, is something I miss.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! sandie♥
ReplyDeleteLove that photo - missing sun and warmth! Not a big fan of salted sidewalks and shoveling:)
ReplyDeleteThose two handsome men could be my father and his brother, amazing likeness and the right time period. pinky swearing is serious business :-). Open house windows.
ReplyDeletesleeveless shirts and shorts. :)
ReplyDeleteeen geweldige foto daar zou ik maar zuinig op zijn.
ReplyDeleteHave really been missing summer vegetables and fruits this past week too. I miss fresh from the vine tomatoes! The kind that don't make it to the house before you eat them. I also miss watermelon, they were not good last year - too much rain. I can almost smell them right now!
ReplyDeleteI miss going barefoot and swimming and digging in my garden and reading in my hammock. I even miss the bare concrete of our driveway.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm missing peach cobbler! :-) And fresh tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteSo Wall E is a robot? That could be fun to build. Pinky swear you'll show it to us if he builds it!
I love these old photos. Your Uncle Tom was handsome.
love that old photograph.
ReplyDeletehappy valentine's day!
xo
Yeah, he looks like a pistol alright. I can remember my dad using Bryl Cream to slick down my hair when I was a kid. There was a jingle that they advertised with.
ReplyDelete"Bryl Cream! A little dab will do you, the ladies love to run their fingers through your hair!"
I miss not having to spend so much on energy to heat my buildings.
Running out of a few things I froze, but they always taste best this time of year.
ReplyDeleteYes, serious business there you got goin' on. :)
ReplyDeleteI miss working in the yard!
xoxo
Lisa, I added your linky. Not sure what's going on with that site right now. Great post! Happy Valentine's Day!

ReplyDeleteI guess I miss the less busy roads. We have a lot of winter visitors right now ;)

I miss fresh tomatoes. A pinky swear is the real deal.
ReplyDeleteSweet vintage pic.
ReplyDeleteI miss wearing my summer wardrobe and warmth on my skin. And pedicures.
I have really been enjoying your pictures, thank you for sharing them. Hope your Valentine's Day was fun and I hope Pierce gets his pinky swear!!!
ReplyDeleteI miss seeing grass on the lawn.
ReplyDeleteWe have had one snow storm after another this WInter ~ in the midst of a blizzard as I type .
Interesting picture and note about Uncle Tom.
ReplyDeleteMiss from the summer? I can't think of anything. Summer is just summer.
Blessing and Bear hugs!
I'm missing the colours!
ReplyDelete☃ Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
Happy belated Valentine's Day to you.
ReplyDeleteCorn and peaches are a great thought. I am missing just playing outside with the kids. We do so much in and around town that just can't be done with piles of snow and a frigid wind blowing.
I love seeing old photos. I always wonder about "the rest of the story."
ReplyDeleteLivie and I can't wait for the Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market in the spring and summer, and being able to go riding (either bikes or horses) outside.
And corn on the cob hot off the grill is awesome!
I love these old pictures. I hope you had a great Valentine's Day - the cobbler sounds great. I miss being able to spend time outdoors {I'm getting kind of tired of putting coats on/off, boots, etc.}.
