We've found a lot of interesting things in the woods around our place. An old carriage, for one. Paul discovered something new the other day though, when we were hanging out by the creek. Can you see it, to the right?
Walk a little closer. What could it be? How did it get here, under this tree, just hanging out for who knows how long?
From the looks of things, it's been sitting here a long time. Perhaps the rest of it just eroded away over time. Or maybe it was separated from it's original pieces years ago.
How about now, readers? Any idea about what this was for? I'll give you a hint. It's from the 1920s.
If you guessed a radio, you would be right. Wonder what happened to the rest of it? Here is a google image of what it used to look like.
Readers, have you ever found anything really neat in the woods?

Too cool. I have found an assortment of treasures of past peoples. Not much on my land as much as just hiking.
What a cool find! Pity the thing is all rusted out and there is no cabinet to restore (if it had been placed somewhere in a barn etc).
That is very interesting, especially as to how it got to the woods. Good find. Havent been lucky enough to find anything like that in the woods.
Very cool Lisa! My twin and I were once wandering around the family farm and came across the basement of our great-grandparents house. Being young and exceedingly stupid we went in with our flashlight, and carried what we found to our grandparent's house.
Pop was talking with his folks, and they all teared up when they saw what we had: the old child-size rocking chair his grandfather made by hand when Pop was born. Didn't keep us from being 'whupped' from going in the basement though, lol.
How about that! Really unique to find something like that. Goodness knows how long it's been there. :)
xoxo
I love these finds and always try to imagine their "story " when I find them. Very cool to see what this used to be too. Not what I had initially imagined
We took a hay ride through the woods at the local fishery and they had all kinds of things back there they discovered when they bought the property and left for the tour, including a really old truck!
Indeed. I found a one blade metal plow from the horse era and used it to decorate my flower garden for years till my spouse began calling it "JUNK."....:)
oh, wow! here i thought it was a mower deck or something. :)
I never would have guessed that was part of an old radio! There must be an interesting story about how it got there.
How on earth did you find the radio that it used to be?? It must have just been put there, or you would have seen it before?? This is also a great post for Earth Day, too. I don't think I have ever found anything this interesting.
That is quite the interesting find. I think it's the best time ever to go in search of finds!
Just lots of old water heaters over here. You might find an old still site out in the mountain like that.
That was amazing that you just found it randomly!
Wow, thats like finding a burried treasure!!! How cool!

A friend of mine found an old church organ abandoned off of a freeway and restored it!
Wow, isn't that something! We toured the General Marshall house in Winchester on Sunday and everything was 1950's and before. The old TV had a screen the size of an iPad! But the case was pretty big.
That is a cool find Lisa! I wonder if it washed up when the water in the creek got high. After a nice little flooding rain in the small creek beside our house my son who plays in that creek will find little bits and pieces of plates and pottery in it. We don't worry about anything harmful because the creek starts somewhere back on our property and no one is up there to put stuff in it. So it is a pretty clean creek for him to play and explore. He has found glass in there though so we make him wear shoes.
Nope. The woods here are pretty well traveled by lots of people--if there were any good finds, they'd be gone by now. That's city living for ya.
it's not what I expected. how very cool and interesting!
I would never have guessed that!
I found a Native American knife once. My husband has found a lot of things. He used to live out in the sticks when he was growing up.
