Turkey Goulash with Mashed Potatoes

I made a turkey goulash recipe recently that turned out pretty well.  Relying on a number of pantry ingredients, it is modified from a Taste of Home recipe.

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground turkey
1 package (16 oz.) frozen mixed veggies
2 cans condensed tomato soup
1 cup water
1 chopped onion
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. pepper

Cook turkey in large skillet, drain.  Add veggies, soups, water, onion, Worcestershire sauce, seasonings.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.  Serve over mashed potatoes.  You could use instant, or you could make yours from scratch.  I always make mine from scratch by boiling and draining a bunch of red potatoes, then mixing them with cream cheese, sour cream, butter, and garlic salt.  I don't measure - I just estimate and taste.  Delicious!

Readers, do you always use recipes, or do you wing it with some things?

  1. I estimate too. You can 'feel' the right amount. I've been laughed at for that method, but it works every time. :) This sounds great.

  2. i am a recipe lover, i prefer to know a plan. my MIL loves just winging it ... it really makes me nervous? why? i want the food to taste really good. i don't wanna waste food. my hubby is just like his mom ... he will throw a bit of this & that ... & it ends up tasting really good ... but it is not my style. but if it works for other, why not?

you had me at mash potatoes, they are my fave ... but i only eat them when my Dad makes them. ( :

  7. Looks delicious... We usually use recipes --but sometimes, the best soups or casseroles I make are when I put all kinds of 'extra' (left-over) stuff in them... YUM.

  11. Looks good! I rarely use recipes these days. But I have them in my head after so many years of cooking.

  12. My recipe is usually "open can." Then "eat food with plastic spoon." I guess I should heat it up but it's too much trouble. That meal you made looks pretty appetizing. Now that my wife will be retiring and staying home, I expect the quality of my meals will improve dramatically.

  15. Yum! It looks and sounds delicious. Most of the ingredients are the same as the ones I use in my Vegetable Beef Soup so I'm pretty sure I would like it. :) Printing this one out. Thanks!
