I started blogging when Pierce was 3. Two weeks ago, he turned 11! We had some family come to celebrate and it just happened to be on the actual birthday of my aunt, Pam.
I didn't have time to do a cake that week. So I took Pierce to Sam's to pick something out. We were flipping through the cake book and Pierce complained, "Mom, I'm TOO old for decorated cakes!". So I told him that it was Pam's birthday too, and that she liked decorated cakes. So he picked out a cake for Pam. All with an air of "I'm just humoring my great aunt, but I am much too old for decorated cakes".
A couple of summers ago we went to see The Secret Life of Pets with Pam and George, so Pierce picked that out as her theme. Plus, Pam is an avid dog-lover. Pierce then chose the most boyish frosting colors he could find.
He sure didn't complain any when he was gobbling up those teal blue frosted flowers! Thank goodness we had Pam around to thank for our cake this year. A birthday without any cake sure would be a sad affair. I'm guessing this whole incident officially puts Pierce into that "tween" category.

As I got older I had pies more often. One year it was watermelon
Happy Birthday to Pierce and Pam. What a neat cake....AND --of course, he is MUCH too old for a decorated cake... ha ha ha.... (Just wait 'til he/they are teens.... Your fun will really begin!!!!)
Hugs,
Betsy
Maybe he can make his own upside down cake next year.
I love "tweens"❣️Taught them for 37 years❤️Happy Birthday, Pierce and Aunt Pam😘Linda@Wetcreek Blog
Wow he is growing fast! What a funny story! Anne Marie is 11, too. Tis the age of moodiness For sure. Anne also has two younger siblings, and now she gets so stressed out by them. This is a great picture! Love how they did the writing, it is not piped.
Happy Birthday Pierce!
What a lovely cake. I made birthday cakes for my children up until we all went our separate ways. They also had Father Christmas visit them every Christmas Eve, so I always insisted they hang their socks on their bedroom doors so he would know where to leave their Santa Sacks!
I suspect he will return to liking decorated cakes... My son is 21 and still loves them. When he bought his Jeep a few years ago.. it was a jeep cake!
Happy Birthday All!
Aw, it's hard when they give up "kid" stuff. I'll bet he'd like a cake...just not a decorated one. Maybe a favorite homemade cake??
Can't believe he is 11 already! WOW!
Happy Birthday, Aunt Pam!

Happy birthday to Pierce! He is growing up fast.
I think you're never too old for cake. :) Glad you found a valid way around it. ;)
It's great to have your son there and be able to do a birthday party for him. Mines been gone a long time now, and we just send a little gift to mark the occasion. I miss those parties.
I still love frosting and decorated cakes. :) Glad he was willing to pick one out for Pan- and I am sure it was enjoyed by all.

Happy Birthday Pierce!
Lucky boy. Such a big birthday cake. Hope you had lotsa fun too :)
Happy birthday to your "little" 11 year-old, Pierce, and Aunt Pam! Can you believe you've been blogging for 8 years already? I'm starting to notice that 11 seems to be the age when kids want to start acting a little older and more independent... Thankfully Aunt Pam doesn't mind "kid stuff" :)
Oh Happy Birthday Pierce. Wow, your kids are growing up so fast. Oh and happy birthday to Aunt Pam, too!
Oh, I bet he loved that decorated cake, it looked delicious!!!!
Congratulations to your family!

Happy Birthday to him! He's certainly in the tween category.
My son Mica is 12, and it's getting harder to buy him things, and he has his days of being moody from hormones. Oh and pimples started.
They grow so fast!
