Meet Claudia

As you know, we foster kittens for the local humane society.  We had a total of 13 kitten go through our home from June - October.  I love it afterwards when I see the humane society post pictures of the kittens getting adopted with their new families.  Paul always says that we don't need any new cats, so we can't adopt them, but he doesn't mind how much I foster.

Then came a litter of two with a severe upper respiratory infection.  They even had to be on immune boosting meds on top of their antibiotics and eye cream.  Next thing I knew, Paul fell for this kitten named Brandi.  He kept saying what a great kitten she was.

Of course, Bobby was missing and we were all sad from that, and Paul said he thought we should adopt this kitten.  On Halloween, the day she got spayed, we made it official and renamed her Claudia (From the book From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler, which I read to the boys a couple of summers ago).  The shelter took this picture when I picked up Claudia from surgery.  I was in costume because we were headed out trick or treating.
Claudia and her sister had a reaction to the anesthesia from being spayed, so we brought her sister back into foster for a while longer so she could recover.  Her sister got adopted just days after she went back to the adoption center, by a family with two little girls (they also adopted another kitten we'd had in foster this summer).

Claudia, asleep on my lap.  She is such an affectionate kitten.  We are all thrilled to have her join our family.  If only Bobby would return, our hearts would be completely full.

  1. Ah---what a precious kitty.... I'm sure Claudia is as happy to be with you all as you are to have her there.... BUT--I do hope that Bobby eventually comes home... Some cats stay gone for a long time before coming home... Let's HOPE.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. That is a nice cat, we had one like that long ago. Now we have one cat that is 10 and has survived living out doors with all that comes with with it on a farm. Now she wants in at night since she is getting old. We will check with you when we need a young one some day.

  4. One of our barn cats just had three kittens. Two golden and one black. I moved them all into the plant room and I'm heating that until they are old enough to get along outside.

Sure do like your pictures. I need to get a better camera. My old crummy Walmart camera I bought 10 years ago just doesn't cut the mustard any more.

  5. Hooray! I am so glad that you have Claudia in your lives. And I know that you are all very sad about Bobby, but his sad departure left room for another kitty to have a home. I always comfort myself after a loss of a kitty by thinking that thought. I know Bobby would appreciate that another kitty has a home...and such a great one at that.

Give Claudia a big smoochie from Aunt Lin!

  6. How wonderful! Kittens bring such joy into a home. She looks just like a cat we had in or early marriage. I remember you writing about these two kittens in a previous post. I think if you foster kittens, it's only a matter of time till adoption. They can really get into your heart.

  8. What caring people you are fostering those little kittens. I am not particularly fond of cats, but we do love dogs, and I do think that we shall help out at the local stray dogs home in the future, when things settle down for us.

  13. Claudia is adorable and I love how she got her name. It is so wonderful that you foster cats and help them have a safe place while they wait to get adopted.

I can relate to how you are feeling about Bobby and I know he would be happy that you have given Claudia such a warm and loving home.
